At Charleston Photo Art, I have the privilege of capturing some of the most heartfelt and unforgettable moments in couples’ lives. On August 5, 2023, I had the honor of photographing a truly magical proposal in the heart of Charleston. Devin & Kennedy, a wonderful couple from Tennessee, came to the Holy City for what Kennedy believed was just a special getaway — until Devin had an unforgettable surprise in store.
The Perfect Setting: White Point Garden
Charleston is full of picturesque locations, but White Point Garden always holds a special charm, especially for proposals. With its towering oak trees, scenic waterfront views, and historic gazebo, it’s a dream backdrop for a romantic moment. Devin planned his proposal at the gazebo, making the moment even more special with the addition of large, glowing “Marry Me” letters. As the golden hour light filtered through the trees, everything was set for the perfect surprise.
The Big Moment
When Devin led Kennedy to the gazebo, she had no idea what was about to happen. As soon as she saw the beautifully arranged “Marry Me” sign and Devin dropped to one knee, her emotions overflowed with joy and excitement. It was a truly touching moment, and I was honored to capture every reaction, from the initial shock to the joyful “Yes!”
The lighting was just perfect, creating a dreamy glow around them. The addition of the letters made the scene even more picturesque, adding a personal and cinematic touch to their proposal photos.
A Romantic Photo Session in Downtown Charleston
After the big “Yes,” we took advantage of Charleston’s stunning scenery for a post-proposal photo session. We strolled along the waterfront, capturing the pure happiness on their faces as they soaked in the excitement of their new engagement.
We then wandered through the charming streets of Downtown Charleston, stopping by the historic homes and beautifully preserved architecture that make the city so special. The timeless beauty of these locations made for the perfect engagement portraits — a mix of romance, history, and Southern charm.

Devin and Kennedy’s proposal was nothing short of magical. From the romantic setting at White Point Garden to the charming streets of downtown Charleston, every moment was filled with love and joy.
