Photography is a captured moment. Yet there is still a way to make it speak for you. The background and clothes will compose stylish and aesthetic sides of your portrait. They are important, no way around it. A pose, in turn, will send a message. Looking at the person, we read their body language. Being able to say what you want by a proper pose is an amazing skill. Below you will find some advice that will help you to understand the posing better.

Whether you decide to stand or sit during the shooting, your back should be straight. At the same time, it would be better to avoid extra tension in your back. Tension makes you look unnatural.

Try not to stand directly in front of the camera. Turn your body just a little to get a relaxed, beautiful look. The ¾ angle usually looks good in photos. Search for some references and see yourself. Even if your plan was to look bigger and stronger, turning your body will help your strong appearance to be more natural.

Sitting on the chair, avoid putting your legs together and letting your hands rest on your knees. This pose screams discomfort. Instead, try to cross your legs and lean on the chair (or bench, depending on your location). It will give you a relaxed and confident look.

Posing with props, such as a laptop, book or jacket, it is better to hold it with one hand. These poses can be easily diversified by tilting the head or redirecting the sight. You can check it by yourself at home. Take some pics of you sitting with a book, change only your head angle and sight direction. Then you will see how different these pics are.

The main emotion of any business portrait is relaxed confidence. Change the location of your hands slowly, no need to rush. This, for example, will help your hands to look more natural and not tense. A soft smile is the best way to make a good impression. You can also try different smiles at home in front of the mirror.

Standing with your hands crossed, you still need to be relaxed. Do not cling them to your arms intensively. Relaxed hands will look much better in the ready photo.

If you are still nervous and feeling like you do not know what to do, it is okay. We are all human beings. Talk to the photographer. Professional will help you to find a comfortable pose. Besides, speaking with a photographer, you will forget that you are being photographed.
