How It Works
I Book & Secure Your Date. Check availability, choose your collection, and book online in just a few minutes. Your date is secured, and we begin planning.
II Plan Every Detail. You’ll receive clear guidance, maps, exact standing spots, and a backup plan. Together, we make sure everything feels natural and perfectly timed.
III The Proposal Moment. I discreetly capture the surprise, the emotions, and the “yes.” Afterward, we create beautiful portraits to celebrate your engagement.
IV Prints & Albums. Many couples choose to turn their proposal into fine art prints or custom albums — a timeless way to relive the moment and share it with family.
Proposal Planning Questions — Answered
We provide a 15-minute grace period for all sessions, and your coverage time starts when you get down on one knee. After 15 minutes, we won’t leave, but a late fee may apply. The way we help clients plan their proposals makes delays very unlikely.
It’s hard to predict the weather in advance, so there’s no need to worry too early. As the date gets closer, we’ll review the forecast and discuss options. We always have a backup plan, and cloudy weather is actually great for photos. To learn more, read our guide to the best weather for a Charleston photo session.
Most clients book 2–4 weeks in advance, but popular dates, sunset time slots, weekends, and holiday weekends fill up earlier. If you know your date for sure, book it and adjust the details, like the venue or specific spot, closer to the date.
If you’re planning a proposal at a historic garden or private venue, you’ll need more time to confirm the reservation. Any setups or decor also require a few weeks’ notice.
If you have a popular public location in mind, like Pineapple Fountain, Philadelphia Alley, White Point Garden, or Isle of Palms, we are open to last-minute bookings.
For many of our out-of-town clients, a beach proposal sounds like the perfect Charleston experience, so it’s a very popular choice. Isle of Palms is one of our favorite locations because of its beautiful sand dunes, wooden pier, and easy public beach access. Folly Beach is another great option, while Morris Island offers a unique setting with the historic lighthouse in the background.
Sullivan’s Island does not allow commercial photography on the beach, so unfortunately, we can’t photograph proposals there. Also, keep in mind that some areas of Isle of Palms and Kiawah Island are gated or private and may not have public beach access.
Once you confirm the location with us, we provide you with a plan, including a map, directions, and, in most cases, a video of the location explaining where to be and how to act during the proposal. Every location has its own specific setting, so we use a case-by-case approach.
Since most proposals happen in public locations, there is no way to stay completely hidden, but it’s easy to blend in and keep some distance. Your partner may notice someone with a camera, but that’s very common in popular locations.
Yes, they can. However, we strongly recommend keeping them hidden until after the proposal so they don’t accidentally block the view or interrupt the moment.
Yes! Our photo + video collection captures the moment with both a photographer and a videographer, so you’ll receive beautiful photos along with a short film of your proposal and reaction. Video can also be added to any photography collection — see our Charleston Proposal Videography page for more details.
Sneak peeks are delivered as soon as the next day. The full gallery is typically ready within a few weeks, depending on your collection.
That’s completely normal. With our detailed planning, guidelines, maps, and videos, you’ll feel prepared, confident, and ready for the big moment.
