There’s something about live oaks in the Lowcountry — their size, their history, the way they stand quietly facing the river — that makes them feel like witnesses to love stories for generations.
When Jackson and Hannah visited Middleton Place from North Carolina in September, Jackson knew exactly where he wanted to propose. Not just anywhere in the gardens — but beneath one of the oldest and most breathtaking live oaks on the property.

Facing the Ashley River, this massive oak tree is covered in soft Spanish moss, its long branches creating the perfect natural canopy. The two of them sat together on a little bench formed by the tree’s roots — a quiet spot Jackson picked out so they could “time travel” for a moment, surrounded by history and nature, before he asked Hannah the biggest question of their lives.
As the evening light filtered through the moss and danced across the river, Jackson proposed — and it couldn’t have been a more peaceful, romantic setting.
Afterward, we wandered the gardens together, soaking in the last golden light of the day. Middleton Place always feels magical, but on this quiet September evening, it was even more special.

Why This Spot Felt So Meaningful
There are many beautiful proposal spots at Middleton Place, but I love when couples choose something a little more tucked away and personal — like this ancient live oak near the river. It’s quiet, it’s peaceful, and it feels like stepping back in time.
For Jackson & Hannah, it was the perfect blend of nature, history, and privacy — exactly what they wanted for this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
