As an engagement photographer based in Charleston, SC, I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful couples in breathtaking locations. Each session tells a unique story, capturing the essence of love in some of Charleston’s most iconic spots. I had the pleasure of meeting Alyssa and Ben, an adorable couple who chose the historic Middleton Place for their engagement photo session.
Middleton Place, with its centuries-old charm, delicate beauty, and stunning landscapes, provided the perfect backdrop for capturing Alyssa and Ben’s love story. This iconic Charleston gem is renowned for its manicured gardens, reflective pounds, sculpted terraces, and serene atmosphere that immediately sweeps you off your feet. It is no wonder Middleton Place is a favored location for many couples seeking engagement photography in Charleston. The timeless beauty of the venue, combined with the soft sunlight and blossoming love, creates a magical atmosphere that turns every session into a masterpiece.
Alyssa and Ben’s love story began in 2017 when they met on a mountain trip in Dandridge, TN, with mutual friends. Alyssa reminisces, “There were over 20 people staying in the same house, and although I knew of Ben, we had never actually met. But as soon as we did, we quickly became close, especially since we shared the same group of friends.”
Their first date was nothing short of romantic. Alyssa recalls, “Ben took me to YMCA Camp Cherokee, where he had spent many summers as a camp counselor. He set up an Eno hammock by a beautiful waterfall, took off my tennis shoes for me, and we watched the sunset together. We spent hours talking about who we are, what we want in a relationship, and what our future could look like. It was so special! I would relive that night over and over if I could. I knew on the ride home that I was going to marry him.”
Ben orchestrated a surprise proposal with the help of his mother, Alyssa’s friends, and family, ensuring that Alyssa had no idea the engagement would happen that weekend. When Ben finally proposed, Alyssa was taken completely by surprise and joyfully said yes, becoming one of the happiest women in the world. To top it all off, the engagement ring is a unique, lab-grown diamond from Reed’s Iconic Collection—a stunning symbol of their love.
During their engagement photo session at Middleton Place, Alyssa and Ben radiated joy and love. The lush gardens and serene reflection pools added a touch of elegance to the session, while the century-old oak trees and meticulously sculpted terraces provided the perfect setting for their story to unfold. Throughout the shoot, their genuine connection and laughter filled the air, making it a truly special experience.
Ben, when asked about Alyssa, shared, “I love how happy she makes me and how she always knows exactly what I need, even when I don’t. She is simply the best.”
